To talk about fashion trends and understand where they come from, we must look at what is happening in the world. International events of a political, social, economic and/or cultural nature give rise to what we call macro-trends. Those macro-trends start to produce reactions in some population groups which give rise to trends and once the trends become massive then they become fashion.
Global warming: an unfortunate reality that has modified many aspects of daily life in different ways; water shortages, bad air quality and polar ice cap melting are just some of the consequences of this unfortunate situation. These issues have stimulated the emergence of responsible consumer trends in several population groups that day by day opt for the buying eco-friendly products.
There are several studies that show that the production of food such as meat has a negative impact on the environment. For example, cows can only consume 60% of the grass on the land they inhabit, as the remaining 40% is lost through trampling, and the cattle industry produces high levels of methane gas, which contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.
We can say global warming is a macro trend. There is growing interest from the younger generations in consuming vegetable protein, products whose production processes are eco-friendly, thus giving rise to a consumption trend.
In order to respond to the demand of products with a reduced impact on the environment and to slow down the deterioration of natural resources, there are different findings that suggest certain species of mushrooms are an effective alternative as a source of protein. For example, Nature’s Fynd of Chicago produces products based on the farming and processing of mushroom found in Yellowstone National Park.
Another company, Prime Roots, produces bacon from the Japanese Koji mushroom, with a flavor and texture that are fascinating to the palate.
A report published by Bloomeng.com, a high-tech, market and data-driven, multi-platform information company, argues that by 2030 the plant-based food market could represent about 8% of the global market, with a value of more than $162 billion, up from $29.4 billion in 2020. The world of mushrooms allows us to visualize not only alternatives for healthier and more sustainable diets, but also more opportunities for innovation and business in a fascinating world that still has much to discover.
This is why mushrooms are incorporated into our collection of prints this season. We want to celebrate through our garments all these innovative research advances that lead to the discovery of alternatives that allow us to continue nurturing ourselves in an optimal way while preserving our planet.
We have set up our blog at Bénieller because we want to share knowledge about trends, design and lifestyle and it allows us to be in continuous contact with our customers and readers. We also want to tell the story behind each print, we want to take you on the journey of the essence of our brand and show you that at Bénieller everything has meaning and that you are part of a beautiful project.
